Western Australia Mooring Management Agents

Working in partnership with government, industry and the community, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure is responsible for marine safety, marine environment protection and coastal facilities. This section provides information on:

  • marine safety for recreational boating and commercial vessels;
  • navigation aids and advice on navigable waters including removing / placing of objects;
  • nautical charts, tides, waves, and notices to mariners;
  • Australian Builder's Plate, BoatCode, commercial vessel surveys and jetty licensing;
  • Certificates of Competency and Recreational Skipper's Ticket;
  • oil pollution and management of coastal erosion;
  • boat ramps, jetties, moorings and regional / metropolitan boat harbours; and
  • coastal facilities planning and development.

Other Information

The Department for Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) is responsible for the management of coastal facilities for small craft around the State. This includes:

  • Management of facilities and sites at approximately 50 discrete locations throughout Western Australia.

     

  • Management of a wide range of facilities varying from major metropolitan boat harbours (eg Hillarys Boat Harbour) to single regional jetties (eg Leeman) to quarries (eg Roelands) and commercial ports (eg Wyndham). 

     

  • Administration of approximately 2,000 licences for jetties, ferries and mooring  areas.

     

  • Administration of the Small Craft Facilities Trust Fund under which fees and charges raised at boat harbours etc. are retained for funding the cost of operating and maintaining these facilities.
